IPR courts established in Guangzhou and Shanghai

           China's second intellectual property rights (IPR) court opened in Guangzhou on December 16, 2014. Six internal institutions including civil, patent, copyright, trademark, and unfair-competition tribunals were set up, and one administrative institution of Judiciary Police detachment was also established. In the next three year, this cross-region court will hear civil and administrative lawsuits of first instance regarding patent and computer software from all over Guangdong Province except for Shenzhen City, and appellate cases of IPR civil and administrative judgments made by all the basic courts in Guangdong Province. The Shanghai IPR court was established on December 28, 2014, and will handle cases in cooperation with the Shanghai No. 3 Intermediate People's Court which was set up on the same day. The court has selected 10 IPR judges including one doctor and eight masters. The judges are 41.2 years old on average, and have been handling IPR cases for at least 8.4 years. The Shanghai IPR court will hear IPR civil and administrative cases from January 1, 2015. The Beijing IPR court accepted and heard the first case on December 16, 2014, after the court opened in Beijing on November 6, 2014.
